Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus

Charles Wesley

Scripture: Jeremiah 23:5

Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.

Hymn lyrics:
Come, Thou long expected Jesus
Born to set Thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us,
Let us find our rest in Thee.
Israelís strength and consolation,
Hope of all the earth Thou art;
Dear desire of every nation,
Joy of every longing heart.

Born Thy people to deliver,
Born a child and yet a King,
Born to reign in us forever,
Now Thy gracious kingdom bring.
By Thine own eternal Spirit
Rule in all our hearts alone;
By Thine all sufficient merit,
Raise us to Thy glorious throne.

Today's thoughts:
Watching as the church prepares for the great event of Christmas, excitement fills our hearts. Our spirits quicken as we hear choirs rehearse the beautiful music of the season; the decorations are in place and the laughter of children rings in the air. Come, dear desire of every nation and fill our longing hearts with joy.
